First loco haulage of the year 1971-2011
Back in the days of the “real railway” with a plentiful supply of loco hauled trains, many of us made the effort to start the year with some decent power. For others it was a question of getting the first available hauled train to somewhere else where decent power was more likely. Below is a first loco of the year contribution from bashers scattered across the UK. It shows a great variety of power (most now long gone), some classic trains and how, even into 2011, that getting the first loco of the year is a surviving tradition for some.

good few of us were on or photting 56121 as seen here at Kettering with 47833
behind on the “Pieman” tour off St Pancras back on January 3rd 1994.
It seemed we all scratched 56121 both for the year and all time!
