Chasing "roarers" Summer 1989

Well this was it, my last All Line Rover, ever...What with family responsibilities, mortgage and an increasingly sectorised railway this was to be a last "hurahh". No overnights, just a good old thrash up and down the WCML. If a class 81-85 "roarer" was up front then all the better!

a fun 2 hour fester at the Keynes primarily covering the up morning Cobblers which as expected were all cans this morning.

81013 0757 Liverpool-Bir Int値 (caught fire on run round) New St - Bir Int'l

81013 was well received as she was on 1000 miles exactly prior to leaving New St. Hopes for a day out with her ended in smoke when she suffered a minor battery box fire running round at the North end of Birmingham Int'l. Even the airport fire engine produced to help. The power was turned off and that was that for 81013, her last ever working

The last ever 8.22 miles off 81013, plus blasts behind 81017 and 85023 made it a reasonable if not sad day..

Conclusion...

So that was that, my last ever "all line rover" ended with an 81 to Euston...

Roarer haulages that week..81007, 81009, 81013, 81017, 85005, 85011, 85015, 85018, 85023, 85028, 85031, 85034, 85110

Roarer mileage 1,544. Not bad at all for a class in serious decline................
